IT LOOKS LIKE AULD LANG SYNE
THE Prada Group is closing down the New York-based headquarters of Helmut Lang, leading to speculation the high-fashion label will be shuttered altogether. "We are in the process of closing the office in New York," Prada spokesman Jason Jacobs told PAGE SIX's Jared Paul Stern. "Since Mr. Lang and his design team are no longer with the company, it doesn't make sense to keep it open any longer." Lang quit the label, which is owned by Prada, earlier this year after reportedly clashing with Prada chief executive Patrizio Bertelli. His creative team took over, but they were unable to see eye-to-eye with Bertelli. Jacobs had no further information on the Lang label's fate and could not say how long the Lang store in SoHo will remain open. Lang moved his 19-year-old company to New York from Vienna in 1998. Earlier this month, Prada decided not to show the new Lang collection during Paris Fashion Week. Last week, we reported Prada had refused to even print a "look book" for buyers and media, effectively stifling the collection.
