Tough Week for Allergies as Pollen Count Shoots Up

The city confirmed yesterday what people with asthma and allergies probably already knew: this has been an especially bad week.

The number of emergency hospital visits because of asthma has more than doubled in the last seven days, as have the sales of over-the-counter allergy medication, according to a release from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene...

mental hygiene...?

and this bit is just insane:

The tree pollen count in Brooklyn yesterday was 690, according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Counts above 90 are considered high. The pollen count is the amount of pollen per cubic meter of air. (emphasis is mine.)

wtf?! i wish i could get seven times higher than high.

still going...

my driver assured me the view would be better from the pulaski bridge. he didn't lie:
