Woman strips off to beat heatwave with splash in Rome fountain

ROME (AFP) - The hottest day in Rome so far this year brought relief for one and entertainment for many on Sunday as a woman took a skinny-dip in the Trevi fountain.

Identified only as Roberta, the Milanese woman, aged about 40, delighted hundreds of onlookers with her "Dolce Vita" caper as the temperature hit 27 degrees Celsius (80 Fahrenheit), the ANSA news agency reported.

Police, after allowing her to strip, splash about and then sunbathe on the edge of the famous fountain for a few minutes, invited her to collect her clothes from the water and leave.

She complied, dripping and smiling to the applause of the crowd.

A police spokesman commented dryly that "water belongs to everyone," but Roberta faces a stiff fine for "obscene behaviour in public."

but so did e against our favorite suckout with a queen on the river for trips.

i lose no matter what, but at least the victor is new.

still, i ALSO lost a side bet on the odds. took my loss for the night from six dollars to eleven. (for reference: in a game where three hundred dollars is won or lost on a literal coin toss.)

can anyone teach me how to play poker?

oil, that is...

toxic greenpoint

Five minutes past noon on October 5, 1950, Greenpoint shook with the blast of a huge underground explosion. The blast ripped out a 10-foot section of pavement, shot 25 manhole covers into the air, and shattered the windowpanes on more than 500 buildings. New York City officials investigating the explosion found that gasoline had seeped into the sewer and ignited. The leaks leading to the spills were left unaddressed, and the millions of gallons continued to migrate.

Twenty eight years later, the spill was “rediscovered” when the Coast Guard spotted an oil slick on Newtown Creek during a routine patrol... The spill was colossal. The 1979 report by the Coast Guard found that 17 million gallons had spilled and spread over 55 acres.
