June 2008 Archives
one: the spiders biting her face
they weren’t really spiders, but more like crazy large versions of the desert scorpion i found in my shoe (((after crushing it deep into my shoe with my foot) in laughlin) in real life). she was lying down. they were her pets, and i guess they ran loose, so when these things started to climb all over her face she laughed because they tickled her. then they started to cling and bite. there was a too-long delay before her laughing turned into the panic and horror.
two: the cat’s massive, rotting wound
it was ophelia. we’d been neglecting her, so we went to make sure she was ok. she was not. massive wound on her back crawling with obscenely huge, very pink maggots. the center of the wound was a hole into an empty space much bigger than the cat. the maggots would fall into the hole and out of sight into darkness. there might have been wooden floors at the bottom of the dark space, but it was hard to see.
christ. two creatures i have killed have come back to haunt me. it’s not fair. one was mercy and the other an accident.
